Clara Wieck Schumann (1819-1896)

Clara Schumann is regarded as one of the first prominent women concert pianists, often called a master of technique. Her marriage to Robert Schumann in 1840 and his untimely death in 1856, greatly limited her compositional output. She composed over 60 pieces, mostly arts songs and piano works. Her music is very representative of the styles during the Romantic Era, including lyrical melodies, chromatic harmonies and chord changes.
