Roger Nixon (1921- )Best known for his contributions to contemporary band literature, Roger Nixon remains one of the prolific composers of the 21st century. Nixon earned both a M.A. and a Ph.D. from University of California, Berkeley where he studied both with Roger Sessions and Arnold Schoenberg. His works include a viola concerto, and orchestral chamber music, choral music, songs, and music for symphonic band. He is the recipient of many awards and grants, including several from the National Endowment for the Arts. Following an extensive teaching and professional career, Nixon is now professor emeritus from San Francisco State University. |
